Overview
The Sharon Stephens Brehm Scholarships support exceptional undergraduate psychology majors who demonstrate financial need. Awards are intended to offset direct educational expenses such as tuition, institutional fees, required textbooks, and similar costs.
Who Should Apply
The American Psychological Foundation (APF) welcomes applications from individuals of varied backgrounds and identities, including but not limited to differences in age, race, color, religion or creed, national origin, ability, sexual orientation, gender, and geographic location.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible applicants must:
- Be an undergraduate student majoring in psychology at an accredited college or university.
- Be a declared psychology major for the fall 2026 semester and intend to remain enrolled in the spring 2027 semester.
- Hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
- Demonstrate financial need.
Required Application Materials
Applicants must submit the following:
- A personal statement outlining your past, current, and planned involvement in the science and application of psychology both on campus and elsewhere, along with your academic accomplishments and leadership experiences.
- A curriculum vitae (CV).
- An official or unofficial transcript.
- One letter of recommendation from a psychology faculty member.
Submission Guidance
We strongly advise requesting your faculty recommendation as soon as you begin the online application. All materials — including recommendation letters — must be submitted by the application deadline. You may complete and submit the online application before your recommender has uploaded their letter; however, recommendation letters will only be accepted up until the deadline date.

- Verified financial need.
- Clear and sustained interest in the field of psychology.
