About the scholarship
This award honors the late Sidney B. Meadows, a widely respected leader in horticulture who was celebrated for his humanitarian contributions to the industry. Meadows was a strong advocate for student support, convinced that investing in education was essential to sustaining and advancing all segments of horticulture. His commitment has helped fund scholarships for many students each year, and with ongoing contributions, additional deserving applicants will continue to benefit.
Eligibility
1. Enrollment: Applicant must be enrolled full time, in good academic standing, in an accredited four-year college or university program in ornamental horticulture or a closely related discipline at the undergraduate or graduate level at the time the application is submitted.
2. Academic level: Undergraduate applicants must be in junior or senior status (having completed the first two years of a four-year curriculum and at least two horticulture courses). Graduate applicants must be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program.
3. Residence and citizenship: Applicant must reside in one of the 16 SNA states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia. Attendance at an institution within these states is not required. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
4. Grade point average: For the most recent two years (or four years for graduate students), undergraduates must have at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale; graduate applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
5. Preference: Priority will be given to candidates who intend to pursue work in any sector of the horticulture industry after graduation (including starting their own business) and to those demonstrating financial need.
6. Previous recipients: Former scholarship awardees may apply again, but an individual may receive this scholarship no more than twice.
