INTRODUCTION
The Pamfil and Maria Bujea Seminarian Scholarship is a one-time award for men or women who are Orthodox Christians from Canada or the United States and are preparing for ordained or liturgical service with the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America in Canada. The length of the expected period of service is set by the ruling hierarch.
AWARD OVERVIEW
- The Scholarship is awarded annually provided at least one applicant satisfies all criteria. The committee determines how many scholarships will be granted in any year.
- Funds are paid directly to the recipient’s accredited School of Theology at the beginning of the student’s second consecutive year of theological study.
- Each scholarship is valued at US $10,000.00.
- An individual may receive this scholarship only once.
ELIGIBLE SCHOOLS
Scholarship funding is restricted to students enrolled at one of the following seminaries:
- St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, 575 Scarsdale Road, Crestwood, NY 10707
- Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, 50 Goddard Avenue, Brookline, MA 02445
- St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, P.O. Box 130, South Canaan, PA 18459-0130
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Canada or the United States and must provide proof of that status. Candidates should be actively preparing to serve the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America in Canada.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applications must include the following:
1. A completed application form and all supporting documents.
2. Proof of enrollment in one of the approved theological programs, a current academic transcript, and a copy of the institution’s letter of acceptance.
3. Three sealed letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant’s character and work; one recommendation must come from the applicant’s spiritual advisor/priest.
4. A handwritten essay of approximately 300 words on the topic: “If I were assigned to Canada, my mission would be....”
5. A recent posed photograph suitable for possible publication.
6. Proof of citizenship or permanent residency (as noted above).
CONDITIONS
If the recipient fails to complete the required theological program within the standard timeframe, or discontinues attendance at the theological institute, the scholarship must be repaid.
DEADLINE & SUBMISSION
To be considered for the Autumn–Winter Term, a fully completed application packet (including all required documents) must be postmarked on or before May 31. Applications postmarked after that date will not be accepted by the Scholarship Committee.
