Woodruff Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Kalamazoo Community Foundation
Overview
In 1982 the family of Edmond B. Woodruff and Beth Woodruff Shipman created this scholarship to honor their memory. The award is administered through the Kalamazoo Community Foundation and appears as the 2026 Kalamazoo Community Foundation General Scholarship.
Purpose
Kalamazoo Community Foundation (KZCF) views education as a fundamental pathway to opportunity and recognizes that pursuing postsecondary study can be a significant financial burden. In support of KZCF’s commitment to making Kalamazoo County a more equitable place to live, this scholarship helps students meet the cost of a four-year college education.
Who is eligible
- Enrollment status: Must be enrolled full-time.
- Program: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (four-year program).
- Student level: Current college freshmen (first-year students).
- Residency/School requirement: Must either live in Kalamazoo County or have graduated from a high school located in Kalamazoo County.
- Financial need: Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
How the award may be used
Scholarship funds can be applied to any portion of your school’s cost of attendance (COA). COA items vary by institution and commonly include tuition and fees, room and board, transportation, food, health insurance, and other education-related expenses. Your school’s financial aid office or its website can provide the specific COA for your institution.
Payment and disbursement
Payments are issued directly to the college or university. KZCF will send a single payment covering the full academic year and will request the institution divide it evenly between the fall and spring terms. If you prefer a different allocation, indicate that preference on your acceptance form after you receive an award notification.
