Howard County Fair Scholarships

INTRODUCTION
Each year the Howard County Fair Association awards as many as six scholarships of $2,000 each to qualified students to help with educational expenses. Recipients are encouraged to give back by volunteering at future Howard County fairs.
ELIGIBILITY
- Must be a current or former member of the Howard County 4-H or FFA program and have participated in the Howard County Fair.
- Pursuing education in agriculture, home economics, or a closely related field (examples include plant or animal science, veterinary science, biochemistry, microbiology, business, consumer affairs, child development, economics, or trade school programs).
- Must be at least a high school junior at the time of application.
- Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply.
- Scholarships are paid directly to the recipient’s college, university, or trade school. If a winner is not enrolled when awarded, the funds will be held for up to three (3) years; after that period any unclaimed funds will revert to the Howard County Fair Association, Inc.
- The Scholarship Committee’s decision is final.
SELECTION FACTORS (WEIGHTED)
- Citizenship, leadership, and accomplishments documented in 4-H/FFA records: 50%
- Involvement with and leadership at the Howard County Fair: 30%
- Academic performance (grades): 15%
- Educational and career plans: 5%
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND SUBMISSION
- Submit a completed application form, an official sealed transcript, and a head-and-shoulder photograph. All submitted materials will be returned.
- Include the most recent 4-H Summary Form, 4-H Story, and 4-H Resume or FFA Proficiency Records. If those records are outdated, applicants may attach updated versions. Additional documentation of community or school honors may also be submitted.
- Deliver the complete application packet to the Howard County Fair Office by no later than 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023 (the final day of the Howard County Fair).
- Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Annual Howard County Fair Stockholders Dinner, held on the fourth Tuesday in October.
