Metal Supermarkets is proud to reaffirm its dedication to nurturing future skilled trade experts through its fourth annual Trade School Scholarship!

According to the American Welding Society, there will be a need for 320,500 new welding professionals by 2029. A study by Metal Supermarkets suggests that the younger generation is largely unaware of the potential careers in skilled trades. More than 62% of the participants in the study revealed that they weren't informed about trade school options during high school. In a similar vein, a Canadian government report states that over 222,000 new apprentices will be required in the upcoming years to satisfy the demand anticipated in 2028.

As the need for skilled tradespeople continues to escalate across North America, we strive to support students who are seeking careers in these pivotal fields that are crucial for many industries and for the maintenance and enhancement of critical infrastructure.

Who Can Apply:

• Students who have been accepted and are attending a post-secondary trade school program commencing in 2025.
• Open to citizens, permanent residents, and resident aliens legally residing in the USA or Canada with a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Scholarship funds are payable to the winner’s certified trade school in the United States or Canada.
• Winner must be enrolled or planning to enroll in the upcoming semester.
• Employees of Metal Supermarkets Franchising Family of Companies, its franchisees, franchisee staff, or their family members are not eligible to apply.

Scholarship Value:

$2,500 paid directly to the institution on behalf of the winning student.

Number of Scholarships:

Total of 4 across Canada & the US.

Selection Criteria:

A committee of Metal Supermarkets corporate staff and current franchisees from the US and Canada will select the scholarship recipients. The selection will be based on the applicant’s academic performance and engagement in related extracurricular activities, particularly those related to their chosen trade. Financial need will also be considered during the selection process. Winners will be notified no later than July 31, 2025.

Required Documents:

Applicants should be ready to provide:

• Current transcript(s)
• Up to three recommendation letters (e.g. former or current employer from industry, school or college instructor, Personal reference)
• Resume including industry/work and community experience.
• Certificate verifying enrollment or program acceptance at a certified trade school.
• Optional: Photos, if available and relevant, of any related work you have completed that demonstrates your skill in your chosen trade.
• A photo (used for media/marketing purposes only) to be submitted after the award.

Entry Instructions:

• Scholarship applications are ONLY accepted online through the above online application
• Applicants must submit a fully completed entry form. Prior to the disbursement of scholarship funds, the information provided on the application may be verified. Any false or misleading information will result in disqualification without notice.
• Each applicant is permitted only one (1) entry per year. Any attempt to enter again under a different name, address, etc., will automatically disqualify the applicant without notice.
• Winning applicants are required to provide the name and contact information of their chosen college/university/certified trade school* for verification of registration and payment of the scholarship to the school. All forms and processes must be completed within sixty (60) days of the contest end date, otherwise, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Winner Announcement:

• Due to the volume of entries received, only the winners will be notified by Metal Supermarkets.
• Metal Supermarkets will contact each winner via email and phone by July 31, 2025, using the contact details provided during the application process. Winners must respond and verify their eligibility within ten (10) calendar days from the date the email is sent/phone message is left.
• Metal Supermarkets will send winners the necessary forms for their chosen college/university/trade school to complete for the issuance of a check to your chosen school and deposit into your student account. No funds will be issued directly to individuals. All forms and processes must be completed within sixty (60) days of the contest end date or the scholarship is forfeited.
• The names and photos of the winners will be posted on this page by July 31, 2025. Winners consent to Metal Supermarkets using their name and photo in promotional activities related to the contest and in general.
