Introduction
LAHC is honored to be recognized as a strong supporter of higher education and to operate one of the region’s largest scholarship programs. Over the past 32 years, LAHC has awarded almost $2 million in academic scholarships to local students.
Who may apply (Eligibility)
- Senior high school students
- U.S. citizens or permanent residents who live in the state of Michigan
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Must demonstrate financial need
Application period and deadline
- Open Enrollment: January 7, 2026
- Deadline: March 11, 2026 by 5:00 PM EST
Applications received after the deadline will be disqualified. Scholarship funds are limited; submitting an application does not guarantee an award.
Scholarship award details
- Award amounts differ by college or university depending on that institution’s matching agreement with LAHC.
- LAHC’s portion is sent directly to the recipient’s institution and deposited into the student account; the partner university will match according to its agreement.
- If a recipient changes colleges after applying, the final award amount may be affected.
Required documents (must be submitted together, electronically)
All materials must be uploaded by the student at the time of application. Applications sent by email, regular mail, or hand-delivery will be rejected — no exceptions.
Submit the following:
1. Completed online application form
2. Most recent academic transcript
3. Copy of your current Student Aid Index (SAI). To obtain the SAI you must complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov — submit the FAFSA as soon as possible.
4. A 500-word essay describing a personal experience in which you faced and overcame a mental-health-related challenge. Address the stigma around mental health (especially for young people) and explain how you would promote awareness and understanding in your community.
5. A list of extracurricular activities and community service/involvement
