Texas UPMA Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by United Postmasters and Mangers of America
Overview
Each academic year, Texas UPMA provides college scholarships for students who are entering their first year of college or trade school and who are descendants of Texas UPMA members. Eligible applicants include children, stepchildren, grandchildren, or step-grandchildren of current Texas UPMA members, retired members, or members who are deceased. The State Board of Directors will set the scholarship amounts based on funds from the prior year’s contributions, chapter fundraising, the endowment, and monies allocated in the Board’s budget.
Funding and award conditions
Awards are contingent on the recipient enrolling in an undergraduate program at an accredited college, university, or trade school. Only applicants who demonstrate strong merit, a clear commitment to education, and the determination to work toward success will be considered. While a highly polished presentation is not required, applications that appear careless may be disadvantaged.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be entering their first year of college or an accredited trade school.
- Eligible family relationships: child, stepchild, grandchild, or step-grandchild of a Texas UPMA member, a retired Texas UPMA member, or a deceased Texas UPMA member.
Application period and deadline
- Applications are accepted beginning January 1, 2026.
- The Texas UPMA Memorial Scholarship Fund will accept applications that are postmarked between January 1 and April 28, 2026.
- All application materials must be received no later than May 13, 2026.
Selection process and criteria
The Scholarship Committee will evaluate submissions using the following factors: character, academic achievement, leadership, ability to follow directions, and, to some extent, financial need. Extracurricular involvement will also be considered. The committee will review applications during the organization’s annual state convention and select recipients based on these criteria.
Notification
Winners will be announced at the Texas UPMA state convention. Applicants who are not selected will not receive individual notification.
